The beautiful French Caribbean island of Martinique is home to this edition’s featured singers ‘Madin’Voices’. We’ve had the pleasure and privilege of providing them with rehearsal tracks since we met their leader, Caroline Bruch via the site almost two years ago now and have been delighted by the challenging and entertaining requests we’ve had from this most energetic and adventurous group of singers and instrumentalists.

We asked them for a little information on their background – so, Mesdames et Messieurs, meet Madin’Voices – the Voices of Martinique…

Created in 2005, Madin Voices is a singing group that brings together amateur singers of all vocal types. Intent on working to the highest standards, they give concerts with a bias towards classical song and operetta, but do not shy away from participating in other types of singing.

Its members make no claim to distinction or particular recognition, unless it comes from the pleasure which the public gets from listening to them. But the professional ear will discover hidden talents there – surprising sound qualities; exceptional eagerness to want to sing well and all wrapped in an unassuming modesty which could be an inspiration to many ‘big names’. At Madin’ Voices, there are no displays of status because they don’t matter. “We wish to share our love of singing well”, say Franck and Jean-Claude, baritone and tenor of the group.

The group is flexible and is put together according to what’s called for at the time. It organises some classical music concerts, of which the best-known is the “Ventura concert”, an annual event in a small 19th Century chapel that seats 250 – an entirely wooden structure with a unique acoustic. For the last 5 years, this concert has become a date not to be missed by lovers of classical vocal music.

The group’s founder, Caroline Bruch, whilst still a mother and mathematics teacher, can’t let a day pass by without singing an operatic aria – whether it’s in her kitchen or on the stage in front of thousand people. The power of her voice with its unforgettable tone quality and a technique that’s come from working closely with prestigious vocal teachers for more than thirty years, leaves no-one unmoved. Even if the beaches do seem to contain this voice within the limits of the island, that’s not a problem because it finds itself in the company of other lovers of great arias.

Every week, the group members work together and individually to rehearse the pieces that will be sung at their next concert.

Créée en 2005, cette association regroupe des chanteurs amateurs de tous registres. Elle assure leur perfectionnement, met en place des concerts plutôt engagés vers le chant lyrique et l’operette, mais ne dédaigne pas de participer à d’autres formes de chant.

Ceux qui la composent n’ont pas de prétention de titres ou de reconnaissance particulière, si ce n’est celle du plaisir que le public ressent à les entendre. Mais, pour l’oreille exercée d’un professionnel, on y découvre des talents cachés, des timbres surprenants, un acharnement rare à vouloir bien chanter, le tout enchassé dans une humilité dont bien des “grands” pourraient s’inspirer. Chez Madin’Voices, on n’étale pas les scènes ou les carrières, parce que cela n’a aucune importance. “Nous souhaitons partager notre amour du bien chanter”, disent Franck et Jean-Claude, baryton et ténor du groupe.

Le groupe s’exprime ici et là, à la demande, et organise quelques concerts lyriques, dont le fameux “concert Ventura”, annuelle dans une petite chapelle de 250 places, toute en bois, construite au 19eme siècle, qui a une acoustique particulière. Depuis 5 ans, ce concert est devenu un rendez-vous incontournable pour les amateurs de chant classique.

Sa fondatrice, Caroline BRUCH, bien que mère de famille et professeur de mathématique, ne passe pas un jour, sans chanter un solo d’opéra, aussi bien dans sa cuisine que sur une scène devant mille personnes.

La puissance de sa voix, la qualité inoubliable de son timbre, et la technique apprise depuis plus de trente années auprès de prestigieux professeurs ne laisse personne indifférent. Et si les plages semblent enfermer cette voix dans les limites de l’île, il ne faudrait pas pour qu’elle se manifeste auprès d’autres amoureux des arias célèbres.

Le groupe travaille régulièrement en individuel, répète chaque semaine les airs qui seront chantés au prochain concert.”
