Composed in the final weeks of the his life as he was suffering with tuberculosis, Pergolesi’s setting of the Stabat Mater sequence is one of the few works indisputably attributable to the composer.
Written for soprano and alto soloists, with a small orchestra, it’s light operatic style is touching to say the least.
