An immersive vocal performance piece is to be staged at Newhaven Fort under the direction of composer Verity Standen. The piece is called “Refrain” and it’s inspired by the experiences of conscientious objectors who were detained at various sites in Britain during the first and second World Wars.
The organisers are looking for male singers to be involved in the performance at Newhaven Fort alongside Verity and a small number of professional singers. I thought you or people you know may be interested in this.
If you’re unfamiliar with Verity’s work, the Guardian had this to say about her 2015 piece “Hug”:
“Sound rose and fell in waves until it felt as if I was drenched in music that had seeped its way into every organ in my body, and maybe even found my soul.”- Lyn Gardner
Further details can be found at the Refrain website, www.refrain.online
It should be a beautiful and moving event, so please pass this on to adult male singers of any genre. People can be new to singing but need to be able to match a pitch and learn by ear. A diversity of voices from all backgrounds would be perfect.
