BBC Radio 3 carol competition opens

Just announced by Radio 3 Breakfast, the 2015 carol composition competition is now open. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to produce an SATB setting of a poem called Comes the Light by Roger McGough. It’s delightfully inspiring.

From the BBC website:

The finished composition should be not more than four minutes long. The closing date for entries is Tuesday 3 November. A team of judges including Judith Weir, Master of the Queen’s Music, and David Hill, Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers will choose a shortlist of six. These will be performed live on Radio 3 by the BBC Singers, and Radio 3 listeners will be asked to vote for the overall winner.”

So, that’s quite a prize, even at the shortlist stage! If you know someone who should be getting their manuscript paper out, now would be the time to direct them to the application form.
